RECYCLED MATERIALNICKEL
Monel 400 (Alloy 400)
Monel 400 (Alloy 400, UNS N04400) is a nickel-copper alloy containing at least 63% nickel and 28-34% copper, valued for its resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids, and alkalis. As a single-phase solid-solution alloy it can be strengthened only by cold working, and it retains high strength and toughness from sub-zero temperatures upward; it is useful up to approximately 540°C (1,000°F) in oxidizing atmospheres and is qualified for ASME pressure-vessel service up to approximately 480°C (900°F). Typical applications include marine valves, pump and propeller shafts, hydrofluoric acid alkylation units and process piping in refineries, chemical process equipment and boiler feedwater heaters. DASM supplies Monel 400 as vacuum-melt quality (VQ) feedstock: every piece is sorted and analyzed to ASTM chemistry, cut to size and shot-blasted on all surfaces for direct furnace charging.
