Maraging 250 (18Ni 250)

Maraging 250 (18Ni 250, UNS K92890) is a low-carbon, iron-based ultra-high-strength steel alloyed with approximately 18% nickel, 8% cobalt and 5% molybdenum. After solution annealing it forms a soft, machinable low-carbon martensite, and a single aging treatment at approximately 480°C (900°F) precipitates intermetallic compounds to reach a minimum yield strength of 1,724 MPa (250 ksi) with good toughness and weldability. Its corrosion resistance is limited, so parts are normally protected by coating or plating, and prolonged exposure near the aging temperature causes over-aging and loss of strength. It is used for rocket motor cases, aircraft slat tracks, drive shafts and other highly stressed aerospace components. DASM supplies Maraging 250 as sorted, analyzed, cut and shot-blasted melting feedstock, allowing melters to recover its nickel, cobalt and molybdenum content.
